Ralph Baer, widely described as the ‘father’ of video games, has died aged 92.

Baer, an engineer and inventor, co-developed the world’s first home video games console, the Magnavox Odyssey.

Unveiled in 1975, the Odyssey had just two games on it, ‘Hockey’ and ‘Tennis’ and used a system of dials and switches to control the console.

With over 150 patents under his belt Baer is also credited with being the inventor of the light gun; one of the first games console peripherals that spawned a generation of arcade games including ‘Time Crisis’ and ‘House of the Dead’.
